When you’re getting ready to pack, picking the right storage containers can be a chore. If you’ve been down the storage isle before there are a ton of choices, many of them are wrong.

Let’s take a look at 4 storage container options that will work for your next storage project.

Cardboard Boxes

Cardboard boxes are great for short term storage and moving. They’re cheap and easy to find. Since they come in multiple sizes it’s fairly easy to find a box that will fit your needs.

When looking for a box, be sure to find boxes that are sturdy and that have handles. Avoid overfilling boxes so they don’t break.

Bankers Boxes

Bankers boxes are great for storing files but are a great alternative to normal cardboard boxes. Bankers boxes feature handles, easy to remove lids, and are small enough to manage. Their construction is generally sturdy (enough to be loaded with paper) and they stack very well.

Bankers boxes are a bit more expensive but can easily be folded down and reused.

Clear Plastic Tubs

Plastic tubs are great. They often have lids that help manage stacking and their clear construction makes it easy to identify the items inside of the box. Storing items upright and organized inside the plastic tub also makes it easy to take quick visual inventory of the box contents.

Clear tubs are preferred for long term and home storage needs.

Wooden Crates

If you need to store large or heavy items, a wooden crate may be the best option for you. Crates can be constructed to support heavier items and can be opened and closed repeatedly without wearing out the crate.

Wooden crates can also be used for a variety of things when no longer needed (garden boxes, compost boxes, trash containers, etc...)
